The importance of whitening before Lammina treatment

Whitening is an essential step in your patient’s Orthoesthetic journey. For optimal aesthetic outcomes, we highly recommend in-office whitening and allowing the teeth to return to a healthy state before the NEXT appointment and about one or two weeks before the Lammina procedure. This process ensures seamless color matching at the next appointment, resulting in a more harmonious and natural-looking smile.

After whitening, you will need to choose a composite shade that best matches your patient’s new color (this is typically B1 or lighter).  A shade guide is helpful to identify the specific shade number for your patient.  If you do not already have a shade guide, we recommend purchasing one for use in your clinic.  Our partners at GLO Science provide a shade guide in their starter packages with standard VITA™ Shades for easy identification.

Once you identify the shade for your patient, you can order the composite material and select a color closest to your patient’s shade.  The material can be used for multiple patients who have the same tooth shade.  You may find that 3-4 color options can be used for the majority of your patients.

When the patient is in the chair and you are ready to begin Lammina treatment, you can place a small amount of composite on the patient’s tooth to confirm the shade is correct.  Then, remove this “bump” with a bur while prepping the patient for treatment.  If the patient is between shades, you can place “bumps” for two different shades and allow the patient to help choose the best match.

If you are covering severe fluorosis, calcification, or discoloration, you may need to apply a blocker before bonding the composite.  Depending on the thickness of the restoration, you may see through the composite to the underlying discoloration of the tooth.  To prevent this, simply use a blocker or opaquer prior to bonding with the Lammina trays.  These materials can also be purchased through your distributor representative.
